A Set Back Can Be A Set Up For A Great Comeback

If you are going to attract exactly what you want in life, it is important you learn how to sharpen your focus and follow through. A comeback is necessary when we pigeonhole ourselves. The problem with goals setting and why goals may go by the wayside has to do with how we approach our goals. If we don't have a realistic plan or know how to handle obstacles we may not be able to bounce back if we are derailed. Setting a goal opens a door to a new adventure. We must have strategies for how we will handle obstacles along the way. Without a game plan and a sound approach a goal remains just that, only a goal. The fact is that many of us get derailed. Our goal does not always happen at the very time we said it would. We start out of the gates strong, fizzle out, maybe dust ourselves off once or twice, only to find yourself once again setting the very same goal. What is that determines the fate of your goals? It is one thing to set a goal and another thing to be able to execute it from beginning to end. It is also another thing to know how to make a comeback if you do get derailed. What needs to shift and change in order for you to keep moving ahead and not lose sight of your vision?

1. Recognize your strengths and weakness by developing a new perspective

The first key is to adapt to the same opportunity as if it were new. You approach it in a way that the old you was not willing to. When it is not your first rodeo and you are back in the saddle, you have hopefully have crafted some new strengths. You may not have it all worked out. The important thing is that you create new routes towards your success. This requires that you come out your comfort zone. For many it is the risk of failing that defers people from attempting the goal even more than once. This black and white mentality actually defers you from your goals and puts you at risk for never achieving them. The reason is because your goals have to be looked at realistically and reality has it that there will be some detours. It's how you handle the detours that determines your level of success. No matter what your intentions or even your skill level doing something, the fact is this does not guarantee you will succeed at what you are attempting to do. You are less likely to fail if you do approach your goal again with new perspectives. It is likely that each time you have set backs you are gaining strengths to proceed with more defenses. You have an opportunity to recognize where your strengths and weaknesses are.

2. Get comfortable being uncomfortable in order to deal with obstacles and finish what you start

At first, the new you may not feel entirely comfortable. It will take some discomfort to get receive the gift of achieving your goal and all that comes along with that. You have to be willing to go somewhere new with yourself. It's in this adventure that you get closer to knowing your own strength. Your ability to tolerate discomfort determines your threshold for finishing what you start. There is not one successful person on this planet that has set out to achieve a goal of some sort that did not present a challenge.

3. Know your potential obstacles. Here is a description of some:

  • Lack of information
  • Lack of skill
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Well being
  • Other people
  • Lack of motivation
  • Time
  • Money
  • Fear

4. Write down your goal and get clear on why it is important you

A study conducted on students in the 1979 Harvard MBA program, only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans; 13 percent had goals, but they were not in writing; and 84 percent had set no goals at all. Ten years later, the findings revealed that 13 percent of the class who had goals were earning up to 84 percent compared to those who had not set any. For the three percent who defined their goals and wrote them down, they were earning on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together. If you don't know how to set goals and you keep them too general they stay as a fantasy and will not become a reality. Make your goals clear, written, specific, and measurable.

5. Ask, Believe and Receive

It is important that you let go of all fears of failure and rejection. The most successful people in life have experienced failures along the way. The quality that made them different is that they didn't let the failures weaken them or prevent them from their destiny. They shifted directions, adjusted their comfort zones and found a new way to sail ahead. If you don't ask for support or align yourself with those who may know more about the goal than you do, the goal will be so much harder to achieve. It is strategic to learn from those who have been there before you. Mentors can be helpful.

Do you believe this goal has a purpose in your life? Do you believe in what you are setting out to do? Is the goal yours or someone else's? It has to resonate with you and what you value. If it doesn't and you don't really own the goal in your heart, it will be nearly impossible to manifest it. If you do manifest it, you may find you have arrived to your destiny, but it lacks substance you are lacking gratification.

Once you figure out what is blocking you from you and your goals. You will then finally get a chance to cross over the bridge that once seemed like a barricade between you and your goals. If the goal is coming from an authentic place that you are well prepared for in body, mind and spirit you will then be in a place to receive. You will not only achieve your goal, but all the gifts that go along with it!
